Spiced Cranberry Spritzers (Non-Alcoholic)

These Spiced Cranberry Spritzers, topped with blood oranges and candied rosemary, combine a marriage of homemade cranberry jam, spicy ginger beer and sparkling, non-alcoholic Rosé to make a flavorful, festive cranberry spritzer mocktail that’s easy to make and refreshingly delicious.

Imagine a chilly evening. You light a fire, throw a couple of comfy cushions next to it and relax with the one you love, all the while sipping these non-alcoholic cranberry spritzers. Or, you could make a cranberry spritzer cocktail by adding a bit of rum if you feel like getting a little frisky! Say what? This cranberry spritzer recipe the perfect thirst-quenching accent for anytime of year, but are especially festive during the holidays.

🍊 Ingredients for Cranberry Spritzers

Besides being delicious, these Cranberry Spritzers are easy to make and require only 10 ingredients. If you’re ready to make them, here’s what you’ll need:

  • Raw agave nectar – a healthier sweetener compared to refined sugar.
  • Fresh cranberries – for a fresh, fruity and tart flavor.
  • Cardamom pods – adds a warm and festive taste to balance drink the sweetness.
  • Fresh rosemary – gives a pop of vibrant earthy flavor
  • Welch’s Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Rosé – or use any bottle of Rosé to make it a real cocktail.
  • Cranberry juice – organic preferred, but regardless should be 100% juice and not cranberry cocktail.
  • Fresh orange rind – the rind is where all of the intense citrus taste comes from.
  • Blood oranges – a deeply sweet citrus fruit without much tartness.
  • Ginger beer – bubbly and bright, non-alcoholic ginger “beer” adds a punch of spice to the drink.
  • Sea salt – balances the sweet/tart/tangy flavors.
  • Vegan sugar – for candied rosemary.

🍷 How to Make Cranberry Spritzers

1. To make this Welch’s mocktail, start off making the cranberry jam/syrup. Add cranberries, agave nectar, a little water, cardamom pods, fresh rosemary, orange rind and a pinch of sea salt to a medium saucepan. Bring to boil. Boil for about 5 minutes or until the cranberries start to burst and the jam begins to thicken. (See finished product below). Allow to cool at room temperature or pop into freezer for 15 minutes if you’re in a hurry.

3. When ready to serve, pour the Rosé into a glass pitcher or punch bowl.

4. Follow with 4 bottles of ginger beer. Also, notice how the cranberry jam naturally sinks to the bottom of the pitcher. The jam adds a major boost of sweet and tart flavors, but because it sinks the drink consistency stays nice and fluid.

5. Top the entire mixture with thin slices of blood oranges. If you can’t get blood oranges where you live, regular oranges will do just fine.

6. Give the pitcher a stir, then serve by the glassful over chilled over ice. Top with a sprig of candied rosemary (see how to make below) and a couple of fresh cranberries.

🌿 How to Make Candied Rosemary

This elegant garnish is surprisingly easy to make! Here are the 3 easy steps:

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking sheet.
  2. Dampen sprigs of rosemary by gently running them under cold water. Place on baking sheet and sprinkle all sides with vegan sugar.
  3. Either allow to dry overnight or place in oven on 350 degrees Fahrenheit (177 degrees Celsius) for 10 minutes.

Tip: You can make these candied rosemary sprigs a day in advance and store at room temperature until ready to use.

💭 FAQS

What is the difference between blood oranges and regular oranges?

Blood oranges are a citrus fruit that leans more sweet than tart when compared to regular oranges. The flesh is a deep, nearly red color, and is far more juicy and less acidic.

In a pinch you can use regular oranges in place of blood oranges in this Spiced Cranberry Spritzers recipe. But note that the flavor will be slightly different.

Can I make this recipe without the candied rosemary?

You certainly can enjoy the drink as-is without the rosemary. These Cranberry Spritzers are delicious and refreshing however you serve!

How do you make a spiced cranberry mocktail without carbonation?

Technically the drink will no longer be a spritzer, but you can make a delicious beverage with no carbonation. Swap the non-alcoholic Rosé with regular non-sparkling white grape juice cocktail.

👩🏻‍🍳 Expert Tips

Here’s what I learned along the way while making these non-alcoholic drinks:

  • Remove cardamom pods and rosemary from cranberry jam before adding to pitcher. My bad, because I only removed the cardamom and am still picking rosemary out of my teeth!
  • You can substitute any sparkling juice or wine for the Welch’s Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Rosé Grape Drink Cocktail.
  • Be sure to stir the entire pitcher of cranberry spritzers from the bottom up before serving so you get some of the cranberry jam in each glass.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 1/2 cup raw agave nectar
  • 2 sprigs fresh rosemary + more for serving
  • 1 tbsp cardamom pods
  • 2 tbsp fresh orange rind
  • pinch Himalayan pink sea salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 bottle non-alcoholic Rosé wine I used Welch’s Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Grape Juice Cocktail
  • 1/2 cup cranberry juice I used sugar-free
  • 4 ginger beers
  • 2 medium blood oranges substitute regular oranges if you can’t fine
  • 2 tbsp vegan sugar for candied rosemary (see recipe below)

Instructions

  • First, make the cranberry jam/syrup by combining cranberries, agave nectar, rosemary, cardamom pods, orange rind, sea salt and water in a medium saucepan. Bring to boil over high heat. Continue to boil for 5 minutes or until cranberries start to burst and form a thick, jam-like consistency. Remove from heat & allow to cool. Remove cardamom pods and rosemary. 
  • In a large pitcher or punch bowl, add the cooled cranberry jam, non-alcoholic Rosé wine and cranberry juice. Give it a quick stir, then pour in the ginger beer. Add sliced blood oranges and serve chilled over ice. Garnish with a slice of blood orange and a sprig of Candied Rosemary (see recipe below for how to make). 

How to Make Candied Rosemary

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking sheet. Run fresh sprigs of rosemary under a gentle stream of water. Place on baking sheet and sprinkle vegan sugar on all sides. Allow to air dry overnight or place in oven on 350 degrees  Fahrenheit (177 degrees Celsius) for 10 minutes. Remove and allow to cool before using as garnish.

  • This recipe was inspired by an alcoholic version over at  HalfBakedHarvest.com. My boyfriend and I don’t drink, so I decided to put a non-alcoholic spin on her recipe and am so glad I did.
  • Be sure to stir pitcher from bottom before serving to ensure each glass gets some of the cranberry jam that naturally settles to the bottom.
