🧾 Ingredients With Substitutions
- Pumpkin Puree - canned pumpkin is what I use in this recipe. It's especially cool if you have leftover pumpkin puree that you don't want to waste.
- Frozen Banana - peel a banana, place it in a freezer bag and freeze for up to 3 months. This helps add natural sweetness and a creamy texture. If you don't have a frozen one, just use a fresh banana and add a little more ice to the blender.
- Vanilla Plant-Based Yogurt - I prefer vanilla non-dairy yogurt in this recipe, but you can use whatever flavor you like best.
- Oat Milk - this is always my favorite to use in my recipes, however, you can use whichever non-dairy milk you have on hand, such as coconut milk, soy milk, or unsweetened almond milk.
- Pumpkin Pie Spice - store-bought works great.
- Pure Maple Syrup - this added sweetener can be substituted with organic brown sugar or coconut sugar.
- Vanilla Extract - adds a warm nutty flavor to the smoothie. I don't recommend substituting this ingredient
- Ice - crushed or cubed is fine.

⭐ Health Benefits of Pumpkin
According to Ryan Raman MS, RD of Healthline, pumpkin (a fruit, not a vegetable) is a highly nutritious winter squash that's loaded with vitamin A. In addition, it's low in calories, high in fiber and rich in minerals and other vitamins. For more information, visit 9 Impressive Health Benefits of Pumpkin.
TIP: I buy a boatload of organic pumpkin puree every holiday season and add it to many recipes throughout the year.
🥣 Make It a Pumpkin Smoothie Bowl Instead
To make this into a smoothie bowl (like this healthy Acai Smoothie Bowl Recipe), simply half the plant milk quantity when adding the ingredients to the blender. For toppings, you can use granola, chopped nuts, sliced bananas, chopped applies, raisins, seeds and your favorite spices.
