🍑 Ingredients for Grilled Peaches Dessert (With Substitutions)

GRILLED-PEACHES
  • Vegan Mascarpone Cheese – peach desserts taste wonderful with my homemade vegan mascarpone but you can use a vegan store-bought version if you can find it if you don’t feel like making it. You can substitute with vegan ricotta, vegan burrata cheese or dairy-free vanilla ice cream, as well.
  • Peaches – fresh ripe peaches will give a little to the touch and smell delicious, like peaches should. To cut them, simply slice on the seam, twist gently and they will break apart perfectly. Then, just use your finger to remove the pit.
  • Crushed Pistachios (not pictured) – I love using salted pistachios (I crush them myself) in this recipe but you can also use crushed cashews, macadamia nuts, walnuts, pecans or almonds.
  • Maple Syrup – I like to brush the peach halves with maple syrup before grilling, however, it does burn as you can see by the pictures. An alternative would be to use vegetable oil or olive oil to grill them and brushing them with maple syrup right before serving.
  • Sea Salt sprinkling the peaches with sea salt before grilling enhances their flavor and brings out their natural juiciness.
  • Fresh Thyme (optional) – for a nice pop of color, add fresh thyme, parsley, or mint as a finishing touch.

🔪 How To Make Grilled Peaches

Step 1: begin by preheating the grill on low. Then, wash and pat dry your sweet peaches. Take a sharp knife and cut at the seam, then gently twist each peach half in opposite directions to separate them. Next, take your finger and gently remove the pit. Step 2: brush each peach half with maple syrup. Alternatively, you can brush with olive oil and leave the maple syrup off until you remove them from the grill. This prevents charring. Sprinkle each half with sea salt before placing on the grill.

Step 3:  grill with the cut sides of the peaches down, on medium heat, for approximately 5-10 minutes. If using maple syrup, be careful, they will char. If you don’t like them that way, leave the maple syrup off until until you remove them from the grill and use olive oil to grill them instead. Whatever you use, watch them carefully so they don’t burn.

Step 4: once they are tender with nice grill makes, use tongs to remove from the grill and placed on a plate. Let them cool for a couple of minutes, then, drop a dollop of vegan mascarpone into each peach half. Sprinkle with pistachios and drizzle a bit more maple syrup on each before serving. An alternative topping is to finish with fresh thyme.

👨🏽‍🍳 Expert Tips

  • As stated previously, maple syrup will cause these juicy peaches to have some pretty hefty char marks. I like them like this, but you may not. An alternative is to brush the peach halves with olive oil and save brushing them with maple syrup until after you remove from the grill prior to serving.
  • Grilling times will vary, depending upon your grill.  For best results, I use this smokeless indoor grill from Amazon for all my grilling recipes and I absolutely love it. But this easy dessert can be made on an outdoor grill as well.
  • If you prefer, instead of grilled peaches, you can bake them in the oven. Preheat your oven to 425F/218C and bake for approximately 15 minutes, checking them frequently so they don’t burn. However; just remember you won’t get those beautiful grill marks.

🍨 Variations

  • Add a balsamic glaze – you can also make this peaches recipe using a balsamic glaze by adding 1 cup balsamic vinegar and 1/4 cup brown sugar to a small saucepot. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring often, until it’s reduced to about half. Remove glaze from heat allowing it to cool while grilling the peaches. Then brush each peach half with the glaze prior to serving.
  • Add a brown sugar glaze – similar to a balsamic glaze, make this easy grilled peach dessert with a brown sugar glaze by combining 1/4 cup vegan melted butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon to a small bowl. Stir until brown sugar and cinnamon dissolve completely in with the butter. Remove peaches from grill and brush the cut sides thoroughly.
  • Scoop of vanilla ice cream – dairy-free vanilla ice cream is dreamy in this recipe and a great alternative to vegan mascarpone.
  • Homemade whipped cream – make this coconut whipped cream or you can by dairy-free whipped cream from your local grocery store.
  • Top with homemade cookie crumbs – think these Best Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies or my Lavender Shortbread Cookies.

💭 Frequently Asked Questions

What type of peaches are best for grilling?

The best peaches are firm, ripe peaches, which are ideal for grilling. They should be slightly soft to the touch but not mushy. Freestone peaches are preferable because their pits are easier to remove compared to clingstone varieties.

Should I grill peaches with the skin on or off?

You should grill peaches with the skin on. The skin helps hold the fruit together during grilling and adds a nice texture. It also helps prevent the fruit from becoming too mushy.

How long should I grill peaches?

Grilling times will vary depending upon your grill. On my grill, I cook them for 5-10 minutes, on medium heat. They are done when you see grill marks and they are tender, but not mushy.

How should I store grilled peaches?

Store leftover grilled peaches without any toppings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can reheat them gently in a pan or microwave before serving.

Can I freeze grilled peaches?

Yes, you can. Simply allow them to cool to room temperature, then store then in a single layer in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature or in your refrigerator overnight.
