Ah, the Blue Kamikaze Shot. A tangy shot recipe that's not for the faint of heart (or weak of liver). With a name like that, you might expect it to have some serious kick - and you'd be right. But don't let its bright blue hue fool you into thinking it's just another pretty cocktail. Oh no, my friend. This tangy shot means business and best of all, requires only 3 simple ingredients and 4 steps to make.
If you're looking for a shot that will knock your socks off (and maybe even your pants), then look no further than the blue kamikaze shot. This neon-colored blue kamikaze shooter recipe isn't for lightweights, but if you're ready to party like it's 1999 (or at least like it's happy hour), then gather 3 simple ingredients and get ready to dive in! With its tangy citrus flavor and potent kick, this boozy concoction is sure to make any night in one to remember (or forget, depending on how many you have).

🍊 Blue Kamikaze Ingredients (With Substitutions)
- Lime Juice - fresh is always best, but you can also use bottled lime juice for this recipe.
- Torani Blue Curacao - an orange flavored liqueur made from the dried peels of bitter and sweet oranges. Responsible for the deep blue color of the recipe. If unavailable, you may substitute with equal amounts or triple sec and a drop or two of plant-based blue food coloring. For your information, Mr. Boston Blue Curacao is unavailable on Amazon. However, Torani Blue Curacao is, and it is vegan-friendly.
- Vodka - gives the blue kamikaze shot it's extra kick. Any vodka will do, but I prefer Absolut, and yes, it is vegan. If you love vodka cocktails, try my Red White and Blue Cocktail
TIP: for best results, chill your ingredients prior to shaking them instead of using ice. When you shake the cocktail with ice, it tends to make the shot bubbly when poured, preventing that pristine clear blue hue in the shot glass, for which this shot is famous.
🥛 How To Make A Blue Kamikaze Shot
1. Pour 4 ounces chilled vodka into a cocktail shaker.
2. Add 4 ounces chilled blue curacao.
3. Finish with ½ ounce lime juice. Shake gently for 10 seconds.
4. Strain Blue Kamikaze Shots into shot glasses. Top with lime wedge for pop of color. Enjoy!
🥄 Equipment Needed
- Shot Glasses - I prefer to serve kamikaze shots in tall, simple 2-ounce shot glasses, which are perfect for this kamikaze recipe. But any shot glass will do.
- Cocktail Shaker Set - I have this set in rose gold, you can see in my Classic Vodka Mule Recipe. But it also comes in silver. I highly recommend it for all your cocktail needs.
👩🏻🍳 Expert Tips
- Using ice in the cocktail shaker makes the blue kamikaze shot bubbly. Instead, chill your ingredients before adding them to the cocktail shaker to achieve the clear blue liquid in the shot glass.
- I use about ½ ounce of sweetened lime juice when making these shots. You may prefer to use fresh lime juice, which is fine. Simply use the amount that suits your taste for best results.
TIP. if you prefer something with less kick, try my Blackberry Mojito, Strawberry Pina Colada or my authentic Tinto de Verano.
🍹 Variations
- Make it a Blue Kamikaze Cocktail - simply double or triple the recipe (depending upon how many you're serving) and pour over ice if you prefer a kamikaze cocktail over a kamikaze shot. If you love cocktails, my Spiced Orange Gin Spritz is a must-try.
- Make it a regular Kamikaze - simply omit the blue curacao to make it a regular kamikaze.
- Add a sugar rim - for an extra special treat, run lime wedge around the rim of your shot glass, then dip in organic sugar. Repeat with all the blue kamikaze shots. Yummy!
- Rock your rim with pop rocks - believe it or not, people do this. Using the same process as with a sugar rim, run a lime wedge around the rim of each shot glass, then dip in a small plate of pop rocks!

The term "kamikaze" has been used since the year 1281. It refers to to the major typhoons that dispersed Mongol-Koryo fleets who invaded Japan under Kublai Khan in 1274.
A Blue Kamikaze Shot provides a fine balance of flavor being a little sweet, from the blue curacao, and a little sour and tangy from the lime.
