- 2 lbs cantaloupe (approximately 1 medium cantaloupe) seeded, quartered, rind removed and cut into chunks
- 3 cups filtered water
- 3 tbsp sugar in the raw or whatever sweetener you prefer
- 2 tbsp lime juice approximately 2 fresh limes
Remove seeds from cantaloupe. Cut into quarters. Using a sharp knife, carefully remove the rind from the cantaloupe. Chop into cubes. Add cantaloupe, sugar in the raw, lime juice, filtered water and sea salt to a high speed blender.
Pulse on high until mixture is smooth and creamy. Strain through a fine mesh sieve or strainer over a pitcher or beverage container. Add ice to serving glasses. Pour cantaloupe agua fresca over ice and garnish with a wedge of lime and slice of cantaloupe. Enjoy!
- A ripe cantaloupe is essential for this recipe. When choosing a fresh melon, press your fingers near where it was attached to the vine. It should give some to the pressure of your fingers. It should also have a sweet aroma when you smell it.
- Avoid adding ice to the pitcher before serving. It will dilute the cantaloupe juice. I simply add it to the glasses before serving.
- Give it a taste test before adding more sweetener. Depending upon your taste preferences, it may not even need any.
